Slowed down a lot since Luke and Jake were born on December 18th/19th of
2002. I didn't run for about 2.5 months. Started running again in mid-March on
the weekends with "The Organ". |

Further confirming my belief that multi-sport events are where its at, and
also further convincing me that if I'm going to keep doing these I need
something other than a mountain bike. The wind really affected me on the
bike portion. I held my place from the start in
the first run, lost about 20 positions in the bike, and gained 4 positions
back in the second run. Finished 85th out of 185 overall, 71st out of
116 men, and 24th out of 37 in my age group (male 30-39). Full
results. (Bought a road bike the next week, BTW) |
This year started off very strong. I got back into
running in August of 2001 after a long layoff and have been going fairly
strong (and smart) since then. Did my first triathalon in July. |

Took it a little easy due to the 5K. |
My goal going into this year was a 19:30 5K. Ran into two problems this year:
lack of motivation and lack of health. I took it easy for two months after the marathon and got back on a serious
program at the beginning of December. I was doing awesome (set a personal record
in the Winter Carnival 5K on February 5th) until coming down with a virus in
mid-February. My doctor told me to take it easy for a few weeks, and that
killed my motivation. I finally started to get serious again in late May, but I
was basically starting over.
In June, I came down with strep throat and wasn't able to kick it until
mid-August when I came down with a bad cold. This summer sucked. My throat
problem continued throughout the year...turned out to be acid related.
Went on Prilosec and kicked irritating foods (mints, coffee, etc.) for 3 months
and it was all better.

I was relieved when the coordinator admitted that is was
closer to 1.25 miles and apologized for not telling us that in advance. 7:51
for 1.25 miles would've been around a 6:17 mile, which is about what I
expected.
